Safety

Hangout is about meeting up in the real world. A few basics keep it good for everyone.

Choose your openness

Every hangout has an openness setting, from the whole city to one group of friends. Public is great for casual, low-stakes plans; keep more personal ones to friends or an invite list.

Meeting someone new

Meet in public places, tell a friend where you will be and when, arrange your own transport, and trust your instincts. You are never obligated to share your precise location, check-ins are always your choice.

Check-ins are discrete

A check-in is a single, confirmed tap when you arrive. There is no live dot and no continuous tracking. Your check-in is visible only to the people allowed by that hangout’s openness.

Community guidelines

Be respectful. No harassment, hate, threats, or content that endangers or exploits anyone. Don’t impersonate others or post someone’s private information. Breaking these can get an account removed.

Block and report

You can block anyone from their profile or a message, and report hangouts or people that break our rules. Blocked people can’t see your hangouts, message you, or find your profile. We review reports and take action.

Emergencies

If you or someone else is in immediate danger, contact your local emergency services first. Then let us know so we can help.
