Community Guidelines

Hangout works because people trust it. These guidelines keep it a safe, welcoming place to make plans and meet new people. They apply everywhere on the Service: hangouts, profiles, messages, comments, groups, and images. Breaking them can lead to content removal, loss of features, suspension, or a permanent ban. Report anything that crosses a line, we review every report.

1. Respect each other

Harassment and bullying. No targeted harassment, intimidation, sexual harassment, or blackmail of anyone.

Threats and violence. Don’t threaten, incite, or glorify violence against a person or group.

Privacy and doxxing. Don’t share someone’s private or identifying information without their consent.

Hate speech. No content that attacks or dehumanizes people based on protected characteristics such as race, ethnicity, religion, disability, gender, or sexual orientation.

Violent extremism. Don’t organize, promote, or celebrate terrorism or extremist violence.

Child safety. Any sexualization of minors is strictly prohibited and reported to the authorities.

Non-consensual intimate content. Never share intimate images of someone without their consent.

Self-harm. Don’t encourage or glorify suicide or self-harm. If you or someone you know is struggling, contact local emergency or crisis services.

2. Respect Hangout

Spam and manipulation. No bots, fake accounts, or artificial inflation of joins, follows, or engagement.

Security and fraud. Don’t scam people, phish, or try to break, probe, or abuse the Service’s security.

Misinformation. Don’t post false or misleading content that creates a real risk of physical or societal harm.

Impersonation. Don’t pretend to be someone else or misrepresent who is hosting a hangout.

3. Follow the law

Intellectual property. Only post content you have the right to share; no copyright or trademark infringement.

Illegal activity. Don’t use Hangout to organize or facilitate criminal activity, trafficking, or solicitation.

Regulated goods. No unlawful sale of regulated goods, weapons, drugs, or illegal gambling.

4. Meeting in person

Hangout is built to bring people together in the real world. Use good judgment: meet in public, tell a friend your plans, and trust your instincts. Check-ins are always your choice and never a live location. See our Safety page for more.

5. Reporting and enforcement

You can report a hangout, message, comment, or person from anywhere in the app, and block anyone from their profile or a message. We review reports and may remove content, limit features, or suspend or ban accounts. Serious violations may be reported to law enforcement.
